Ahhhh, the blue doors. Every door in Essaouira is blue, and there are some quite fantastically faded ones.

This is up at the ramparts of the Essaouira Medina, where the whole town seems to gather every day to watch the sunset over the Atlantic.

Alison bought a jewellery box off this fella. We did our best at haggling, but I'm sure he still got a pretty good price - certainly much better than the shops he would normally be selling to would offer.

Anyway, nice guy - and his woodwork was lovely.

In the center of town it's more difficult to see where the line is drawn between traditional desert wear and religiously imposed/inspired 'modesty', but out on the beach there was no doubt. Some people can wear what they like, and some can't.

I don't want to offend, and I make no attempts to force my feelings on others, but I found this really hard to see, let alone understand.

the wind really is very strong here. If you don't cover up you get rather sand-blasted, to be honest!

Destroyed by the Portugese, then further destroyed by the elements. Quite an exciting place, though, and there's no one telling you not to clamber on it or explore - great fun!
